I LOVE ME SOME ME!!!

Hello old friend oh how I missed you. I deeply apologize I wanted to blog a couple of weeks ago but I was too damn busy (I wanted to share my thoughts on Hurricane Katrina but I was so furious I couldn’t express myself in blog form.). If only my real life was going as good as my fantasy life is right now. So forget about real life I much prefer to live in a fantasy world. I HAD THE BEST FANTASY SPORTS WEEK IN MY LONG SUFFERING FANTASY SPORTS HISTORY!!!!!!!!!! After languishing in third or fourth place for much of the fantasy baseball season, my team rallied in the last couple of weeks of the season to take first place in my division and first place overall in the league! I had something like an .800 winning percentage in the last few weeks (that’s a pretty nice run.) For the first time in my pathetic fantasy career I ended up with the undisputed BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. I won the marathon regular season (the true test in fantasy) even though I may not win the sprint (the crap shoot known as a fantasy playoff series). Some may say that I have never won a fantasy league before. Technically I have won some public leagues and I did win the money in our NCAA Yahoo Tournament last year and I shoulda won that first year of basketball but I was out of the country during the championship and didn’t even check it!! (can you imagine me not checking a fantasy team ahhh the good old days.) Anyway so far I have won 25 percent of what should be about an $800 pot. Unfortunately I spent roughly that amount on transactions (trades and waiver wire pick ups) so I broke even.
Even more exciting is the first weekend of the Fantasy Football Season. I drafted three awesome football teams, although I will only follow two. I scored in the 130’s in every league last week (a very high score for fantasy football). In my most important league I didn’t even use my first string defense, the Jets, they are starting to make me nervous. Let me warn you, every time I think somebody has a good fantasy team (including my own teams) they usually turn out to be the worst teams in the league. I think its God’s way of saying “you’re an idiot.” So I will downplay my team now. You guys suck! I am a bit worried about my running backs and I have no back up QB (Damn you Mac for taking my Bledsoe). The running back situations in fantasy are a hot mess this year across the board. Even a healthy Priest Holmes has to share the backfield.
I got stuck with the 12th pick this year in my 14 man league. Which forced me to do something I have never done, draft a non-running back in the 1st round. I had to draft Randy Moss. I love Moss. Nothing made me happier to see Minnesota fall on their ass last week without him. I want a Moss jersey for my birthday (hint hint Angela). But I was nervous I have never drafted anyone but running backs in the first two rounds. I have never had a star receiver on my team. I had Chris Chambers in his best season as a pro (which was pretty damn good.) I had Brandon Stokley last year who managed to put up his big numbers every other week which gave my bench high scores but that’s about it. Like I said I was nervous after almost one half into the first game of the season last Thursday I was upset. “Two points outta my first pick!? What the hell.” Then he promptly caught a 76 yard touchdown pass. All of a sudden he had like 25 points with all the bonuses. “I’ll take it.”
This is my favorite time of the year for sports. I challenge anyone to come up with a better month to 6week period than early September to Mid-Late October sportswise. Check it out you got:
-Baseball playoff race
-Fantasy Football drafts
-College football starts
-NFL starts
-U.S. Open
-weekly football pools
-baseball playoffs
-preparation for the NBA fantasy draft
-the World Series
It doesn’t get any better than that folks but I’ll try. The first week of February to the end of March you got….
-The Super Bowl
-NBA All star weekend
-Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition
-College basketball conference tourney’s
-College basketball selection Sunday
-joining 16 NCAA tournament pools
-the NCAA tournament
-Spring training
-Fantasy Baseball Draft.
I know there must be some month in the summer or late spring that I am forgetting about (when is the Master’s?) but for my money you can’t beat September for sports.
